Colonial Guilt? Rethinking Europe’s Role in Latin America
Colonial Guilt? Rethinking Europe’s Role in Latin America
A Sincere Reflection on Economic and Social Legacy
Speaker Fernando Villafuerte
Supported by data and statistics from reliable sources, we will review not only the economic factors but also the social dynamics that existed in the Americas before 1492, throughout the colonial period, and the outcomes that are still evident today. We will address historically and humanly painful episodes—without minimizing them, yet also without approaching them from a place of resentment. This is a bold proposal that challenges the dominant narrative in today’s climate of guilt, grievance, and calls for reparation.
This perspective will be presented by someone not only academically equipped to address the subject, but also someone with Aztec blood
running through his veins.
This talk will be held on the first floor of the Centre for Student Life, room 1.27
