Blaenavon Heritage Railway
** This is an option if you are booking the coach trip to the Big Pit. **
The Big Pit Railway Station is a short walk from the Big Pit Mining museum. Blaenavon's Heritage Railway runs through the Blaenavon World Heritage site on the edge of the Brecon Beacons National Park. They operate steam and heritage diesel services. It is possible to take a ride on a heritage train either following the underground tour at the Big Pit, or as an alternative. Taking the train may mean that you don't have time to investigate all of the above ground attractions at the Big Pit, although you will still be able to do the underground tour if you wish.
The return coach will pick up from Furnace Sidings railway station (which is the end of the line) on the way back from the Big Pit.
You can catch the train directly from Big Pit railway station, or walk the short distance to Furnace Sidings station, where the train actually starts and where there are also workshops and engine sheds as well as a tea room.
You will need to catch the 14:15 train from Furnace Sidings (or 14:21 directly from Big Pit) for which you will need to be at the station by 13:45. The coach will collect you from Furnace Sidings Station at 15:30.
** Please book the Big Pit trip and add your Blaenavon Heritage railway ticket as an option on that page **
