The Seven Ages of Ann
Speaker Ann Tarper
From post-World War to post-Covid - maybe not quite a poster-girl, but Ann is still standing. Hear about Captain Fantastic and the Brown-Hatted Cowgirl, that other house in Windsor, and the disappearing piano. Then there's the origins of the Vicar of Dibley, many weddings and a lot of funerals, and was it love actually or just a similarity to Bridget Jones?
Ann's life has spanned nearly eight decades, four careers, two countries and a fascination with all things theatrical. Sometimes dramatic, but not quite tragic, and always with comedy in retrospect.
Be transported :
- from an early co-educational experiment to a debutante ladies' college,
- from the student nurses' bedsits to the delivery end of maternity beds,
- from English rain and slush to Norwegian snow and sunshine,
- from holidaymakers on the fjords to managing tourist hotels,
- from the bastions of theological training to becoming a C of E priest,
- from polite parish chatter to chaplaincy on secure prison wings,
- from chairing parochial church councils to the challenges of retirement.
All this, and Mensa too!
This talk will take place on the first floor of the Centre for Student Life, room 1.26 / 1.27
